CBRE’s Urban Photographer of the Year competition challenges photographers to showcase a snapshot of urban life in an ever-changing global landscape.

The best photos are largely subjective, but they all have one thing in common: the ability to tell a captivating story in a single image.

Whether it’s the bustle of the souks of Marrakech, early morning commutes in Hong Kong or a jeweler lost in her work in Düsseldorf, the photographs of past winners capture the essence of city life around the world.

Now in its ninth year, the theme of this year’s CBRE Urban Photographer of the Year competition is “Cities at Work”—a broad and inspiring glimpse into urban environments and a unique perspective on how we interact with them.

So, what makes a winning image?

“Each image captures a moment in a story and brings a city to life. It’s not enough to take a photo of a stunning skyscraper; we are looking for a photograph that tells stories and provides a view into the urban environment that others might not see,” said Paul Suchman, CBRE’s chief marketing officer.

The competition is free to enter and open to both professional and amateur photographers. A unique element to the competition allows each entrant to submit up to 24 images—one to represent each hour of the day. The overall global winner of the competition will be able to choose an amazing photographic holiday from a range of locations, sponsored by CBRE. Prizes will also be awarded to regional winners in Europe, Asia and the Americas and for the 24 standout images representing each hour of the day.

This year, there’s also a new mobile category: To enter, your picture must be taken on a mobile device. There will be one winner of the mobile category; the prize is an iPad.

For every entry in the Urban Photographer of the Year competition, CBRE will make a donation to Plan International.

So hurry up and get shooting! Enter here.
